About the McLaren M23 1976
|
The McLaren M23 was McLaren Team's entry for the 1973 season, having entered the car halfway into the season to replace the M19 that represented the team since the 1971 season. The M23 was equipped with a DFV engine and featured side radiators. The body was low and linear shaped, differentiating it from the rounded bodies of its predecessors. The M23 received many upgrades over the years, and served as a powerful contender up until the 1978 season. During its debut year in 1973 drivers D. Hulme and P. Revson both managed to take victories with it, and in the following year driver E. Fittipaldi was able to take championship for both himself and the team with the car, making it the first constructors win for the team ever. In the 1975 season the car was unable to defeat the combination of N.Lauda/Ferrari 312T, but in the following season a fierce battle for championship took place with driver James Hunt joining the McLaren team. A dramatic back and forth took place between both drivers up until the final race at Fuji where Hunt managed to clinch driver champion for the season under heavy rain conditions.
This 1/12 full detail kit is based on the McLaren M23 used by J. Hunt during the 1976 Season.
